SunLink provides T-1 SMDS leased-line services for areas Northeastern and Central Pa. that are served by Bell-Atlantic telephone exhanges.

What is SMDS?

SMDS, or Switched Multimegabit Data Service, is a packet switched data transport service ideally suited for LAN interconnection and inter-enterprise networking. It provides a scaled approach when purchasing high bandwidth services and allows for easy migration to ATM services. Its uses include Internet access, telecommuting, imaging and multimedia transmission. Additional technical information is available from CERFnet and the SMDS Interest Group.

What does an SMDS Internet connection cost?

There are two components which make up the total cost of an SMDS Internet connection - line charges and port charges. Line charges are payable to Bell Atlantic, and cover the cost of transporting data between your location and the local Bell Atlantic SMDS cloud. Port charges are payable to SunLink, and cover the cost of providing Internet traffic to your site via Bell Atlantic's SMDS cloud.
