A Nurse's Life In Vietnam

The country of southeast Asia, Vietnam is the spot.

Where we are serving in hospitals we hope God has not forgot.

Here with the sick and wounded, the dust, dirt, and disease.

Here where a gal sometimes gets blue,

walking through the huts wishing there were more we could to do.

We sweat, we tire, and things some people don't understand.

But we are proud to say "we are officers of the Army Nurse Corps the best in the land".

We don't earn much pay,

our mission is help conserve the fighting strength of our men twenty-four hours a day.

As we serve and help save lives, we live with our memories

And hope our men don't take other wives.

Some people don't know we are here, and some don't give a damn.

Others say we'll never be forgotten, for we are the nurses of Vietnam.

The time we spend here, one year of our lives, one we could not have missed.

So take it from us here and for heavens sake enlist.

When we go through those pearly gates and hear old St. Peter's command:

"Attention Everyone" here come the nurses of Cu-Chi, Pleiku, Long Binh and all the rest, we'll just smile and say

"It was all done for our fighting men of Vietnam".

"WHAT IS A MOTHER"

It takes a Mother's LOVE

to make a house a home.

A place to remember,

no matter where we roam...

It takes a Mother's PATIENCE

to bring a child up right.

And her COURAGE and CHEERFULNESS

to make a dark day bright...

It takes a Mother's THOUGHTFULNESS

to mend the heart's deep hurts,

and her SKILL and ENDURANCE

to mend the little socks and shirts...

It takes a Mother's KINDNESS

to forgive us when we err,

to sympathize in trouble

and bow her head in prayer...

It takes a Mother's WISDOM

to reconize our needs,

and to give us reassurance

by her loving words and deeds...

It takes a Mother's ENDLESS FAITH,

her CONFIDENCE and TRUST,

to guide us through the pitfalls

of selfishness and lust...

And that is why in all this world,

there could not be another,

who could fill God's purpose

as completely as a MOTHER!
