The role of forensics in the investigation of child abuse is absolutely critical. The subdiscipline of medicine known as forensic pathology, when practiced competently draws upon all of the disciplines which investigate a child's death in order to make a determination of the cause and manner of a child's death. Frequently an autopsy alone is not enough.
